Bio

Qiana Mestrich Born and raised in Brooklyn, NY of Panamanian and Croatian heritage, Qiana Mestrich has studied photography and its history for more than 15 years. She attended Sarah Lawrence College where she studied for 3 years under the tutelage of renowned color photographer Joel Sternfeld.

Trained as a fine art photographer, Qiana's personal work ranges from portraiture to still life and landscapes. As a world citizen, she's also documented her travels to countries like Panama, Cuba, Trinidad & Tobago, the UK and more to come. In her photo arsenal are both film and digital cameras like the Nikon D200, the FUJIFilm GA645Zi rangefinder and Leica minilux zoom, among others. Mentors in photography include masters Manuel & Lola Alvarez-Bravo, Edward Weston and Gordon Parks.

Professionally, Qiana is a Search Engine Marketer specializing in SEO (search engine optimization) with a decade of web production experience. In 2007, a desire to mesh photography and digital media lead her to launch Dodge & Burn, a blog focused on diversity in photography profiling "minority" photographers and projects about communities of color worldwide. She hopes to one day teach this unique perspective of photography history.
